" 'Wide Open' is the recording that Al Brant always wanted to make.
True to his eclectic musical background, the songs reflect Brant's evolution as an artist. A mix of Roots/Americana with a dose of R&B,'Wide Open' showcases Brant's dynamic vocals as well as an impressive array of session players. Veteran, bordering on legendary, bassist Mike Lent was in the producer's chair for 'Wide Open' and he'll be on the stage with Brant leading a collection of some of Edmonton's best musicians."

September 2010
The release date for the new recording is October 28, 2010; see the Schedule page for more information. The Edmonton Journal’s Roger Levesque got an early listen to the project. Click here for the review.

June 2010
The cast of The Christmas Carol Project has organized a team to participate in the 10th Annual ALS Society of Alberta's "Walk for ALS" on Sat. June 12.

You can help us raise funds to provide care, support and equipment for those living with ALS in Alberta and for research in Canada. ALS (or "Lou Gehrig's Disease) is a progressive and ultimately fatal neuromuscular disease.

We are showing our support for our friend Colin Lay, who has been the invaluable front-of-house and live recording sound engineer for our annual Christmas Carol Project concert for the last 10 years. Colin has also provided impeccable live sound and studio engineering for countless musicians in Alberta and beyond. Colin was recently diagnosed with ALS.

In solidarity with Colin and other people living with ALS, we are participating in this great event and hope you will too. We hope to raise $1,000. Anything that you might be able to give would be greatly appreciated and honoured.

Donations:
The ALS Society will send you an official tax receipt for donations of $20 or more.
(1) Online: The Christmas Carol Project Fund ALS Website has more information and online credit card donation directly to the ALS Society.
www.als.ca
Any amount you decide would be greatly appreciated and honoured!

(2) We will also accept donations the old fashioned way:
ou can mail a cheque made out to "ALS Society of Alberta" to:
Distant Whisper Music, PO Box 4463, Edmonton, AB T6E 4T5 (preferably before Jun 9, if you are mailing within Edmonton); please include your name & address so that they can mail you a tax receipt for any amount over $20. We will ensure that any cheques arriving after the walk will be sent to the ALS Society of Alberta. Our friend Colin has told us how excellent the ALS Society of Alberta has been in giving him immediate and practical support.

May 2010
Well....my new recording, "Wide Open," is almost done! The sessions were truly a beautiful experience. Mike Lent, Gary Craig and Kevin Breit in a room together, playing live....amazing! "Kevin Breit is the Ry Cooder of Canada," Mike Lent said. The recording will also feature guest artists Karla Anderson, Mark Sterling, Russel Broom, Dave Martin, and a few others TBA (see links below).

I will keep you posted on our progress in finishing this CD. I'm excited about how it's sounding, and hope to have some copies available at my July 7th performance at Festival Place.

I am now on Facebook and Twitter, if you would like to join me. Here are the links:

April 2010
Hi Folks,
Well... I have started the ball rolling on my new recording with Mike Lent in the production chair. It is a great pleasure to be working with such an accomplished producer/musician and I am feeling really good about the whole project. We are currently working on getting ideas together as far as grooves and arrangements and are laying down tracks this month in Toronto and Edmonton. Over the next few months I will be posting some acoustic versions of the tunes on my Facebook profile.

I really want to thank all who came out to the live shows last year. Your support is much appreciated and I hope to see you out for more. I will be in touch with you about the CD release in later months.

All the best in 2010....it is a good life !!!!
Peace... Al
